Prilep Officially Opens New Waste Sorting and Disposal Collection Point

The Municipality of Prilep, in cooperation with the Public Utility Company (PUC) "Komunalec," has officially opened a new collection point for waste sorting and disposal. This marks a significant step forward in establishing a more organized, sustainable, and eco-friendly waste management system.
Additionally, a new specialized waste collection vehicle has arrived in Prilep. The vehicle was provided by the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning as part of the Regional Solid Waste Management Program. The new collection point is located on Trajko Nikoloski Street, right outside the entrance to the PUC "Komunalec" garages. To protect the infrastructure and ensure proper use, the site is secured and monitored under 24-hour surveillance.
Starting today, residents can properly dispose of electrical and electronic waste, textiles, glass packaging, paper, and plastic all in one location. The equipment for collecting electrical and electronic waste was provided by the licensed waste management scheme Elkolekt, which will handle the collection, transport, and recycling in compliance with legal requirements. Residents can drop off small household appliances, IT and computer equipment, phones, cables, lightbulbs, monitors, and other types of e-waste.
Furthermore, a glass recycling "bell" container has been installed, alongside bins for PET plastic, paper, and cardboard. This ensures that residents who are not, yet part of the residential curbside sorting system can still actively participate in proper waste management.
In collaboration with the licensed textile waste operator Texomak and the "Sort Waste" campaign, systematic textile waste collection is also underway. Residents can drop off textile waste at the collection point in front of PUC "Komunalec," at the "Komfi Angel" facility, or use a mobile app to request home pickup.
The Municipality of Prilep emphasized that this collection point marks the beginning of a new systematic approach to waste management, aimed at raising public awareness and laying the groundwork for the future regional waste system and regional landfill. Concurrently, the Municipality of Prilep and PUC "Komunalec" are already working on a project to build a large, modern sorting center capable of processing at least 30 types of waste, in line with modern standards and legal obligations. Through these initiatives, the local government continues to invest in modern public utility infrastructure and projects that directly contribute to a cleaner, tidier, and healthier city.
