    Regional Waste Management System

The Regional Waste Management System (RWMS) is an exceptionally important project for the region that will provide improved infrastructure and the application of new waste treatment technologies, intended to fundamentally change our relationship with waste. The ultimate goal is, of course, a final transition from short-term, ad-hoc solutions and fragmented municipal services toward a systemic approach and a modern and sustainable waste management system.

Through the RWMS, municipalities from the Pelagonia and Southwest regions join forces in a single common waste management region. In this way, waste is managed within a single, integrated, and efficient system. Instead of each municipality dealing with waste on its own, all municipalities will share a common structure – a modern regional waste management center with a sanitary landfill, transfer stations that will shorten transport distances and reduce traffic, and municipal collection centers for bulky and special types of waste.

The RWMS also means closing substandard municipal landfills, cleaner neighborhoods, and better air quality, more efficient waste collection, and easier recycling. Landfill fires will be eliminated, there will be fewer illegal dumpsites, safer operations for public utility companies, and clearer communication with citizens.

Better for households, safer for communities, and smarter for the region.
